Flower Care Tips

Fresh Flowers

Give your flowers a fresh start

When you first bring flowers home, trim the stems before placing them in water. Use a clean, sharp knife to cut each stem at a 45-degree angle. This angled cut helps the stems drink more water by opening up the waterway and preventing the ends from resting flat against the vase. Avoid using scissors, since they can pinch or crush the stems and block water absorption.

Remove extra foliage

Leaves sitting below the waterline can decay quickly and encourage bacteria to grow, which shortens the life of your bouquet. Strip away any greenery that would rest in the vase water. If the water ever looks cloudy or starts to smell, it’s a sign of bacterial buildup—just wash the vase, rinse the stems, and refresh with clean water.

Keep water fresh

Cool, clean water is best for cut flowers. Let your bouquet have a long drink right away, then check daily to make sure the vase stays full. Change the water every two to three days to keep blooms at their best.

Feed your flowers

If your bouquet comes with a flower food packet, mix it into the first vase of water. These nutrients help support freshness and extend the life of your arrangement.

Find the right spot

After arranging your flowers, place the vase somewhere cool and away from direct sunlight, heating vents, or strong drafts. A stable, comfortable environment helps your blooms stay vibrant longer.
